Plans for major renovation project at St Mary’s, Aberfoyle

Posted Monday 16 June 2008

St Mary’s, Aberfoyle is proposing a £330,000 renovation project. St Mary’s is 114 years old. The Vestry report states that it is suffering from ‘crumbling stonework, rusting windows, subsidence under the porch and peeling paintwork.

Ventilation to the floor needs to be improved and the entire roof overhauled. St Mary’s needs to provide better toilet and other facilities for disabled access as well as visitor information…’

Work on raising the money required is proceeding with great enthusiasm. The Vestry was awarded a grant of £105,000 by the Heritage Lottery Fund and is launching an appeal for £150,000 to raise the balance of the funding required.

Vestry member, Nick Cooke, is proposing to walk part of the West Highland Way in order to raise funds for the project.
