Workshop notes
It wasn’t Sunday as usual for the congregation at St Peter’s, Kirkcaldy on 6th February! Over 30 people, including a very bonny baby, participated in a highly productive and fascinating CTN Mission Action Planning workshop which started at 10.15 and ended at 3.00pm with a marvellous Celtic Eucharist celebrated by Father Gareth Benson. By the end of the day, everyone had gathered a full picture of the role St Peter’s plays in the community of Kirkcaldy, and developments in church family life, such as the burgeoning Sunday School. From auditing church life against the 9 Marks of Mission, the congregation chose to develop Mark 2: Transform Lives and Communities, Mark 3: Nurture faith through lifelong learning and mutual support and Mark 7: Share our faith by confident and sensitive evangelism.
The workshop was led by Revd Gareth Benson and the Casting the Net facilitators, Margaret Dineley and Revd Richard Evans who have been working with St Peter’s Mission Planning Group for some months to prepare for this day. Discussions were lively, not shying away from asking difficult questions about how to share our faith with others and to allow a space where people can express doubt and explore questions of faith.
It’s clear that St Peter’s is buoyant, able to nurture the spiritual needs of their church family, and to reach out to others and share their faith. Now the Marks of Mission are selected, the St Peter’s Mission Planning Group will be working on developing a Mission Action Plan which will harness St Peter’s many strengths, in consultation with the Vestry and the wider congregation. We look forward to the launch of the Mission Action Plan. Please pray that God will continue to guide them in this next stage.
