The Final Pilgrimage performed at St Andrews, St Andrews
Posted Tuesday 14 December 2010
On the 4th and 5th December, some of the congregation and choir of St Andrews Church presented the play with music – ‘The Final Pilgrimage’. . A version of this play was performed as part of the celebration of the Millennium in 2000 and is a simplified - and often humorous - version of the medieval story of ‘Everyman’ who is summoned to appear before God to give an account of his life. Alan Tricker adapted the play and music was arranged by Richard Evans.
In spite of the snow, over 150 people came to see the performances. Christine McGladdery took the lead part and gave a very moving performance. She was on stage the whole time, but was ably supported by 18 other actors who acted with great conviction. The cast ranged in age from 10 to somewhere in their 70s, so it was an excellent all-age event.
The choir sang 20 items which allowed time for reflection on the story as it unfolded and this music contributed greatly to the overall effect of the show.
